Cleaning Up after Your New Puppy

If you’re one of the millions of Americans who is planning on adopting a new puppy this holiday season, you may be in for more than you bargained for.  While an adorable puppy will make a wonderful addition to your home, that cuteness can be a double-edged sword. Along with all the joy that puppies bring us, they also bring messes, dander, and hair that can leave your home in a sorry state.  If you’ve made the decision to adopt a puppy or dog this year around the holidays, the talented technicians at JMS Enterprises have a few suggestions to help you keep your home clean all year around. These are our top 3 tips for cleaning up after a new puppy (or any other pet, for that matter).

Getting Rid of Pet Stains

Any pet has the potential leave stains on your carpets and area rugs, but puppies definitely have a reputation for “accidents.” If your new best friend has an accident on your carpet or rug this holiday season, the best thing to do is clean up the mess promptly before the stain and odor sets in permanently.  A wet/dry vac is actually one of the best tools you can use because it will extract pet urine and other substances from deep in your carpet fibers. If you don’t have a wet/dry vac, you may be able to get rid of the stain with a quick spot treatment. Of course, pet stains always have a tendency to hang around, so periodic professional carpet and area rug cleaning is a good idea.

Dealing with Pet Hair

Dog and cats of all types shed hair, from shaggy Golden Retrievers all the way down to short-haired Chihuahuas.  If you don’t clean it up, it’s likely to end up all over your furniture, clothes, and everything else in your house.  Regular vacuuming is a good start but it can’t always remove pet dander, the microscopic skin flakes and body soil that are responsible for that “pet smell.”  To get rid of pet hair and dander from your home, vacuum at least once a week and schedule regular professional carpet, area rug, and upholstery cleaning.

Air Duct Cleaning

Speaking of pet dander, your floors and furniture aren’t the only places you’ll find it.  The air ducts in your home are great at collecting pet hair and dander, along with mold spores, dust mites, and other particulate matter.  As these substances build up in your ducts, they’re constantly being recirculated around your house. Over time, this type of particulate matter can have a big negative impact on the air quality in your home, especially for those with allergies.  If you want to keep your ducts (and your air) clean, we recommend scheduling an air duct cleaning from JMS Enterprises every 2-3 years.

A new puppy is bound to bring you lots of joy, along with lots of messes.  Properly caring for your pet is the most important part of being a pet owner, and that includes providing your furry friend with a healthy, clean home to live in.  Lucky for you, JMS Enterprises in Montgomery County, PA has a solution for pet stains, odors, and dander.
