Steam Cleaning FAQ

Steam Cleaning FAQ

If you’ve got carpets that need cleaning, you might be wondering if it’s best to try and do it yourself or call in the professionals.  A rental carpet shampooer may be a good way to clean up surface dirt but if you want to get rid of deep-down dirt and stains, you need to get a professional carpet cleaning by professionals like the ones at JMS Enterprises.  Not only is the equipment we use better at deep-cleaning, it’s also better for your carpet. Here are some of the most common questions our customers ask about the advanced steam cleaning methods we use:

What kind of equipment do professional carpet cleaners use?

At JMS Enterprises, we use only the latest in steam cleaning technology to deep clean and deodorize your carpets.  Unlike traditional carpet shampooers, our cleaning equipment is truck-mounted so that only the wand and hoses actually go inside your home.  While it’s known as “steam cleaning,” our equipment actually injects hot water and cleaning agents deep into your carpet which is then extracted by a vacuum.  Unlike carpet shampooers, which only clean the surface of your carpet, our steam cleaning equipment gets all the way down to the pad and because there are no mechanical scrubbers, it won’t damage your carpet fibers.

How long does steam cleaning take?

Our carpet cleaning technicians will always take the appropriate amount of time to clean any carpet.  The time it takes to clean your carpet may vary depending on the size of the room, how soiled the carpet is, and how many spot treatments we need to do.  On average, we take about 15-20 minutes to clean a room, so be sure to allow at least that much time in each room for your job to be completed.

How soon can I walk on my carpet after steam cleaning?

After our solution of hot water and cleaning agents is injected into your carpet, it instantly liquefies dirt so it can be extracted using a powerful vacuum.  We always extract as much of the water as possible but the carpet will be a bit damp to the touch when we’re done. While you can still walk on the damp carpet with clean shoes or feet, it’s best to wait until it’s fully dry before you walk on it to avoid leaving stains or dirty footprints.  Your carpet should be dry in about 6-12 hours and your sales receipt will contain instructions for how to dry it even faster.

Can you move my furniture?

The carpet cleaning technicians at JMS Enterprises will be happy to move almost any furniture that’s in the cleaning area.  Before we arrive, we suggest that you box up all your small items and move any fragile objects out of the room to make the job go quicker.  You should also know that we won’t move any items that can’t be moved safely due to their size, weight, contents, or construction.
