Tips for Some Unique Area Rug Cleaning Scenarios

Area rugs are the perfect way to add visual interest to a room and give yourself the enjoyment of walking on those lush fibers. Unfortunately, your gorgeous rugs can be a magnet for spills, but the team at JMS Enterprises has some tips that will help you clean up some specific types of spills before they set in.

Red Wine

Rug cleaning experts recommend using cold water to clean up red wine and grape juice because the tannins in those liquids dissolve more easily in cold water. If you have any carbonated water on hand, like club soda, its acidity and bubbles will help break up stains more quickly. Gently blot any excess wine or grape juice to avoid pushing more into the fibers, then soak the area. Repeat that process until the stain is gone.

Pet Stains

If your pet had an accident on your prized area rug, don’t fret; you can clean up pet stains using a spray bottle filled with a 50/50 mix of vinegar and water. The water will help to break up the stain, while the vinegar will help to neutralize the odor. Once again, repeating the process of blotting excess liquid and spraying your cleaning solution will yield the best results.

Coffee

Spilled your morning cup of joe? Coffee stains are particularly difficult to remove but if you get to them right away, you may be successful. You can use the same vinegar/water mixture with a tablespoon of non-bleach dish soap added. Blot up the coffee that hasn’t soaked in yet, then thoroughly spray the area. After a few minutes, dab up the liquid with a clean towel and repeat. If you’re lucky, that coffee stain will be a distant memory.

Blood

Accidents can happen; maybe you got a nosebleed, or you cut your finger on a piece of glass. Blood is another difficult stain to clean, especially if it is allowed to dry. Cold water will help, and you can try applying water from the back side of the rug to wash it away. Many home remedies suggest using hydrogen peroxide for blood, wine, and other dark stains, but we would caution against it, especially for rugs with vibrant colors. Peroxide, baking soda, and other common home remedies have the potential to bleach your rug fibers, which will be impossible to correct, even by professionals.

Professional Area Rug Cleaning

While cleaning up tough stains yourself can reduce their appearance, it is unlikely that you will be able to fully remove any of these stains on your own. When spills happen, the best remedy is to call a professional area rug cleaning company immediately. At JMS Enterprises, we have decades of experience cleaning the toughest stains from all types of area rugs. We also make it convenient for you. Our friendly technicians will be happy to come to your home or business and take the rug to our Rug Salon, where we use Wool Safe®-certified cleaning methods to clean it all the way to the backing. The cleaning solutions we use are specifically formulated for use on even the most valuable area rugs without bleaching or other damage.

When we’re certain all stains have been removed and the rug is completely dry, we will deliver it back to you and reinstall it right where we found it. You don’t have to worry about anything!
